What To Expect Your 1st Year…

All volunteers are brought on as candidates. The candidate period is 8-12 months in which the volunteer is required to learn basic fire and EMS operations as it relates to the Wescott Fire Department. This is also a time in which the candidate’s level of commitment is evaluated. Candidates are allowed to respond to alarms, participate in training and public education events, and enjoy the camaraderie that is prevalent in fire houses across the country.

After completion of candidacy, volunteers are promoted to probationary membership and continue to learn and refine their skills with more detailed skill evaluations and training evolutions. When it is determined that probationary members have completed all required training, members are promoted to full membership and receive their badges and are sworn in by the Board of Directors.
